Idols South Africa: Our Five Standouts
The remaining 37 contestants had one final shot to make their mark, to show the judges exactly who they are as musicians, and why they deserve to part of the live shows.
These five blew us away:
Tebogo Louw: Nathi - Nomvula
Honestly, he received a song the producers knew he could handle. Tebogo more than handled it. His beautiful tone just glided over the lyrics, effortless as his voice is. This is definitely his year, and deservedly so.
Lucia: Zonke - Reach It
Lucia has a unique, soulful, raspy voice that is sure to take her through to live shows. Gareth's right - she's a 'real singer'. That voice could be golden.
Thami: Justin Bieber - Sorry
Yup, Thami is back with a vengeance. He delivered a soulful, sexy version of this popular pop ballad that showcased his fantastic vocals. I loved it.
Siyakha: Beyonce - Irreplaceable
What a performance! She was a queen on that stage, all I wanted to say was "yassss queen". It was a truly fantastic performance. She's a star. When do I vote?
Noma: Jennifer Hudson - And I Am Telling You
Vocally, Noma has the goods. This is a very, very challenging song to sing, and she more than rose to the occasion. Her voice is effortless and pure, and it showed throughout the performance. She's class. Vote for her!
And Randall, that song literally comes from Dreamgirls - a performance that earned Jennifer Hudson her lone Oscar. That song is dramatic, it's meant to big and powerful and in your face. Get a grip, dude.
There are only five performances listed here, but there are several others who could be potential stars, who may even deserve to be labeled as standouts. Bevin and Valentine, to name two, look and sound like true pop stars.
They're born to make pop music.
But the night belonged to Noma, that's for sure. However, the winner has not been chosen at this stage.
Next week we find out who makes it to live shows, and there's bound to be some shockers.
