Idols SA XII: It's All About The Ginger
Two episodes into Season 12 and I'm just not 'feeling it'. Maybe I was spoiled by the abundance of talent on The Voice or maybe I have just outgrown the Idols franchise altogether - only time will tell.
Tonight we head to Pretoria to see what talent the Nations' capital has to offer.
First up is super-nervous Ongezwa Matshoba. She has never performed in front of anyone before and it shows. she has a big voice but falls into the 'Generic Diva' category. Her performance is far from perfect but she gets a Golden Ticket nonetheless.
Next up is Keamogetswe Msiza. Gareth looks unimpressed. I share his sentiments. Blessed Mlangeni falls into the same category as Ongezwa and Gareth once again seems very disinterested. Nokuthula Mnube is the first contestant of the evening to display some spunk. She seems interesting. All 3 receive their golden Tickets.
Eugene Marais hails from Bloemfontein and is a former pupil of Phillip & Ella Kotze. He is absolutely dreadful! Needless to say he does not receive a Golden Ticket. He aims to enter The Voice later in the year. Good luck Bobby!
Thokozile Ndimande (27) baked a cake for the judges. She has a strong voice but her phrasing is terrible. Randall is not impressed but majority rules and Thokozile receives her Golden Ticket.
It is all about the hustle for 28-year old 'Egg Man' Tebogo Mathe. He has a nice tone to his voice but totally botched the lyrics.
I wish there was more focus on real talent and less on the hogwash forced upon us by the likes of Amos Phokela. The show is going to lose all credibility due to rubbish like this. 'Thinking Out Loud' has never sounded this bad and Ed Sheeran should sue the pale green shirt off of Amos's back!
He was painfull to watch in Season 10 but Ayanda is back and even more ridiculous as before. Someone needs to draw up a petition to have the Wooden Mic section removed from the show!
Tsepo, Lebogang and Keletso are all dreadful.
Shanice May is 19 and also hails from Bloemfontein. She has 'Judges Favorite' written all over her. She gives a solid rendition of a Drake song. Randall loves her. 4 Yes's and the Golden Ticket is hers.
Mdu Mahlonu plays the saxophone really well. Sadly his singing is not to the same standard. No Golden Ticket.
Simon 'Ginger' Makhosi reminds me somewhat of my dear friend Prime Zulu. He is very animated and has a good voice. I like him. Maybe there is hope for this season afteral. Ginger gets a Golden Ticket. Yay!
Valentine Mathe is the best female voice of the night in my opinion. This is the fastest that I have ever seen a Golden Ticket being handed out. Well deserved!
Bubbly Tshegofatso, Ora and Mongoli all receive Golden Tickets as well.
Lucia Jakeni is up next. I wasn't blown away by her performance but she receives a Golden Ticket regardless of my opinion.
Lucky is up next... Dear Lord this is a hot mess... Beep Beep Beep Beep.... I did not find it amusing at all!
'Like Father Like Daughters' close tonight's show. Faith is my favorite off the bat. They harmonize beautifully together. Buhlebenkosi and Winter both display some serious talent but i maintain that Faith is the one to watch.
Well that was an uncomfortable 90 minutes!! Only 2 performances to impress tonight were that of Ginger and 'The Daughters'.
Are the producers holding out on us and keeping the real talent for later on or has Idols really taken a turn for the worst?
Vent in the comments and let us know how you feel about Season 12 of Idols South Africa!
