American Idol XV: We Rank The Top 5

It is hard to believe that in 2 short weeks the last ever American Idol will be crowned.

It gets tougher every week to rank the contestants as the performances just keep getting better but here goes anyway:

#5 R: Sonika Vaid

I'm glad the judges saved her again, but her time is well and truly up. The other 4 are just a step too high. J: Sonika Vaid

I believe Sonika's time was up 2 weeks ago when Avalon left but what do I know? Stranger things have happened so she might (but probably won't) be around next week. #4 R: MacKenzie Bourg

It's really hard to rank Mac. For all I know, he could be a hit amongst voters. But, as good as his version of "Billie Jean" was - and it really was great - I don't think he deserves to clinch a final 3 spot. J: MacKenzie Bourg

I still can't believe MacKenzie was considered a jock in highschool. He has been consistent throughout the competition but I don't see enough star potential to deem him a finalist #3 R: Trent Harmon

His OneRepublic cover: disaster. His rendition of "Simple Man": finale worthy. For a third consecutive week Trent gave a finale worthy performance. However, where he stacks in popularity remains to be seen, but it's likely impossible that we'll see a Trent vs La'Porsha finale. J: Dalton Rapattoni Dalton is as close to an emotional I'm going to get this season. For some odd reason I just 'get him'. His hauntingly beautiful performance of 'Sound of Silence' showcased just how tremendous a performer he really is. In my books Dalton should be ranked at #2 but Trent's very vocal fanbase is keeping Mr Rapattoni in the #3 spot, for now. #2 R: Dalton Rapattoni

I could have gone without his version of LP's "Numb". However, his performance of "The Sound of Silence" was the best live performance he has given. It was hauntingly beautiful. Dalton's mix of teenage girls and older ladies who think he's "different" and the next Adam Lambert might prove to be the winning combination. J: Trent Harmon

Trent gave both his best and worst performances to date on the same night. At this point I want to stick out my tongue and say 'Hey, I liked mono boy from the start' - but I won't. Trent is a class act. He has the pipes to sing just about any song and his endearing personality is certainly helping his cause. #1 R: La'Porsha Renae

Again, the big-haired soul singer won the night. Not because one particular performance stood head and shoulders above the rest (Trent's "Simple Man" was my personal favourite), but because she was the only contestant who delivered two very solid performances. All those great moments, and yet you cannot say she has it in the bag. Anything could happen. And Scott Borchetta now prefers Dalton and MacKenzie after the elimination of his favourite little country girl. #BewareOfTheBus J: La'Porsha Renae

I may not be a fan of La'Porsha's type of music but she deserves all the credit she gets. She slayed both her performances last week and for that very reason she once again remains firmly cemented in the #1 spot

Do you agree with how we ranked the contestants? Who do you think will be going home this week?

Will we be saying goodbye to Sonika this week after her being saved by the judges for 2 consecutive weeks or will we witness our first unexpected elimination?

Tune in tomorrow night as the American Idol Top 4 is revealed!
