Power Couple SA: And The Winners Are...
Mostly just Lottostar.
Yes, last night Lottostar gave away just over 600k in prize money: R508 000 to the winning couple, and another 100k went to the runners-up. They saved so much money last night, they could have even given PJ and Marzanne some dough, you know, just for being the couple who accumulated the most money throughout the season.
Where they could have given away R1.5 Million, the public decided, no, they should just award a third of that.
Emile and Razia won the public vote and became South Africa’s first Power Couple. I already congratulated them at the end of last week’s recap. That means that Dyllan and Viki are the season’s runners-up. Yesterday was also Viki’s birthday, so at least a smaller cash prize was in order.

With this format, it feels as though all those weeks of television and challenges and cash came to nothing. It almost meant nothing in the scheme of things. They can just choose 8 couples, put them up in a luxurious villa, and let them have fun. After a few weeks, the public vote for their favourite couple – like a shorter season of Big Brother, with couples. In the end, that’s what the vote will come to: which couple is the sweetest and the cutest? None of the game stuff will actually have an impact on the outcome of the public vote.
The season ended, predictably, with a whimper, and not a bang.
But, the finale also saw Gift and Bana Afrika announcing their first pregnancy – great news, congratulations!
It also saw Marzanne receiving the shoes she was promised as a reward for eating that nasty stuff during a Girls Challenge a few weeks back. It looked like a good pair, too.
I really would have liked to have seen all the couples’ answers to the questions Ryan posed to them throughout the finale: which relationship benefited the most? Who deserves to win the show? All good questions. Just a pity the camera never bothered to show us all the answers, or, in some cases, the voting machines – or whatever – were faulty. Little lazy on the production there.
It was nice seeing all eight couples reunited again, though.
Will there be a second season of Power Couple SA? If they can hand out so little money every season, I don’t see why not.
I’m pulling for another season of Survivor.
