Power Couple SA Recap: We Have Our Final Three

What an uneventful, unremarkable hour of reality television, eh? It certainly wasn’t Power Couple SA’s finest hour. Clue one: they had to start the episode by recapping the remaining 4 couples’ paths that led them to this point. So basically, just some filler. It was like the second film in a trilogy – just an episode to set up the final showdown.

At least last night there wasn’t an easy unanimous vote. The two couples in the safe seats decided to save different couples, and ultimately it went down to which couple has accumulated the most money.

That’s new.

When Dean and Crystal failed to win this week’s couples challenge, they were automatically up for elimination. Joining them in the hot seats – for a record third time – were Emile and Razia after they lost the couples challenge by only 1 second. Dean and Crystal just managed to pip them there, but regardless of who lost the challenge between the 2 couples, the bottom 2 would have remained the same.

This left PJ and Marzanne and Dyllan and Vix with all the power. It was their decision to make. They could choose who they wanted to face off against, and surprisingly, they didn’t agree on who to vote for.

The couples challenge involved what was touted as the sexiest dance – the tango. I’m more of a Paso Doble dude myself, all that passion, desire, strength and sexiness in one dance. Yes. Okay. The challenge entailed the couples performing their own version of the tango, while strapped together, forced to move as one. They had to collect five roses that were randomly positioned along the length of the dancefloor. The catch? They would be doing so while having to step through a complex grid of lasers. The couple to collect all of their roses in the shortest time would win. However, if either of them touched a laser beam, they would have to freeze for a 10 second period, costing them possibly valuable time.

In the end, it was Emile and Razia who lost the challenge with a time of 1:45, one second longer than Dean and Crystal’s time of 1:44. This time Dyllan and Vix got the better of PJ and Marzanne after they managed to complete the challenge in only 51 seconds.

Then it was time to “get rid of” someone to quote Dyllan. I think you could get some good filler of insensitive stuff he’s said throughout the season. At this stage, I think all of their possible future votes are for Vix, not for Dyllan. It’s for the kickass woman who had to deal with him and ultimately forgave him on last week’s episode. The Power Woman will possibly win them Power Couple.

When it got down to voting, the best friends couldn’t agree on who to save. Vix was adamant that they want to compete against the best competition, and that’s how their vote went too. Dyllan and Vix decided to save Emile and Razia.

PJ and Marzanne opted to save Dean and Crystal. Marzanne gave a long speech about the two couples on the block and her reasoning behind the vote, but I gotta admit I still have no clue what their vote was based on. Let’s just say, it’s easy to see why PJ sometimes doesn’t listen to her, *wink wink*. It was something about spending more time with Dean or Crystal, or their mutual blondness or something.

This means the vote was deadlocked. The couple with the least amount of money in their electronic wallet will be sent home – Dean and Crystal.

They became the fifth couple eliminated from the show, but what they didn’t get in money they made up for in growth. Crystal, especially, would be happy about how it went down. Their relationship has without a doubt grown stronger, and that’s what she wanted out of the whole thing. It’s a good end for them.

Emile and Razia survived their third time up for elimination, and fuck, if they manage to win a challenge next week, PJ and Marzanne and Dyllan and Vix might just end up kicking themselves. Emile sold themselves as the couple who won’t be winning any couples challenges. That was his sales pitch for them keeping himself and Razia in the game. It will be tough losing to a couple who could have been eliminated on three separate occasions. PJ and Marzanne haven’t been on the block once – there’s everything to play for next week. Literally everything.

PJ and Marzanne and Dyllan and Viki deserve to be the final 2 couples, but next week is a clean slate.

The couple to win the first challenge will automatically advance to the final. The 2 remaining couples will then have to fight it out in what looks to be a gruelling and mental challenge for the second spot in the Top 2.

If Emile and Razia win the first challenge... Damn.

Next week viewers vote for the winner. If Dyllan and Vix find themselves in the Top 2, I have an inkling that they’ll win the vote – and the money.
