Power Couple SA Recap: Romcom Edition
Last night’s Power Couple SA was pretty much like a romantic comedy – or in some cases romantic drama – in that it featured some funny moments and it ended with an “awwww sweet” moment, like those cheesy but sweet romantic comedies where the guy gets the girl, then does something stupid, loses the girl, girl forgives him and he gets girl back, and it’s happily ever after.
That happily ever after could very well include close to a million bucks in prize money for Dyllan and Vix. If they end up in the Top 2, which at this stage seems almost inevitable, they’ll win the public vote in what could be a landslide. Last night’s episode also cemented the status of PJ and Marzanne. They’re still in the lead, but with Dyllan and Vix creeping up on them at a solid pace. Together they’re the best friends in the house, each other’s biggest competition, and the 2 couples deserving of their spots in the final 2.
But last night was Dyllan and Vix’s episode. It was set up nicely before the first challenge when Dyllan admitted that he doesn’t know what he has learned thus far, about himself or their relationship. Vix wants him to see her, and it sounded like he maybe took her for granted. As he explained, she’s always there. One of those stories where the guy doesn’t know what he had until he lost it, but that didn’t have to happen in their case. More on that later.
The girls’ challenge was pretty tricky. They were required to change a car’s tire while suspended on a platform high up in the air, and their husbands were on the ground trying to instruct them. They only had 5 minutes to complete the task. All the guys decided to take a risk. Dyllan went all in, putting up the whole 50k. PJ went for 48k, Dean for 47k, and Emile went with 42k.
Razia and Crystal failed to beat the time and lost the challenge, which meant that they’re down to 8k and 3k respectively. The challenge was also a good indication of how far Dean and Crystal have come.
Sure, he seemed disappointed, but he has learned to work with it. No more being mad at Crystal, it’s basically a new Dean.
Marzanne killed the challenge, and completed with a good few seconds still on the clock. Viki also completed the challenge – with only 4 seconds remaining. They’re electronic wallet almost stood at 0, which would have secured them an automatic spot in next week’s elimination. But, crisis averted – Dyllan’s 50k went up to a 100k. PJ and Marzanne sat at 98k. So it was a pretty good day for them, I’d say. It’s hard to imagine them not being the final 2 couples.
Especially after the guys challenge – they went skydiving. Viki wasn’t too amused by that, the woman wanted to jump out of a helicopter so bad. Don’t worry, Viki, you can join him for the next session after you’ve possibly won the grand prize.
Okay, the guys challenge entailed the guys jumping out of a helicopter. They were then asked to name 5 phrases that their wives desperately wanted to hear while the women were planted safely on the ground. The guys had until their feet touched the ground to successfully name the 5 phrases. I wouldn’t call this a great challenge, but it did what the producers wanted it to do, especially for one couple.
Dean failed the challenge after Crystal decided to go all in, meaning they currently sit at 0 in their electronic wallet. Emile also failed, unable to name the 5 phrases. To be fair, one of the phrases Razia wanted to hear was that she is still out of his league. Sjoe. That’s enough to give some men a hell of an inferior complex. Razia didn’t go all in, though, meaning Emile and Razia are 3rd on the leader board.
“Let’s make a baby” was one of PJ’s guesses. It’s safe to say he was wrong, judging by Marzanne’s swift response, which I very loosely translate as “Fuck no!” That was funny. The rest played out well for them, as PJ completed the challenge. Marzanne wagered 80k, meaning they currently sit at 178k for this cycle.
Then it was time for Dyllan to learn something. Most of their phrases were pretty generic, but the one Viki desperately wanted to hear the most was the one he took his time to realize, but it finally came: “I won’t hurt you again”. Hollywood romantic drama ending, right? It made for good television, and surely will make for tons of votes. Viki has forgiven him, and they’ve come full circle. Did you say “awwwww”? It was indeed touching. Also great for them: Viki wagered a whopping 93k. 193k for one cycle is pretty huge. It also means that they have gained 15k on PJ and Marzanne. Close finish.
Which couple will be sent home next week? The couples challenge is more important now than ever before. It could still change everything, but I don’t see PJ and Marzanne or Dyllan and Vix going home if they find themselves up for elimination.
If it’s between Emile and Razia and Dean and Crystal, my money is on the former.
