Mzansi Magic Premieres New Comedy
Clear your schedules and flex those laughing muscles as Mzansi Magic brings The Mayor to town this November!
Produced by Gonga 7 for Mzansi Magic, The Mayor features a stellar cast which includes Lucky Legodi (OJ Mabunda), Vicky Kente ( first wife), Bianca Le Grange (second wife), Fiona Ramsay (city manager), Ntobeko ‘Ntosh’ Madlingozi (Boy-Boy), Thuli Thabethe (Mercia) and Rea Rangaka (Martin Shai) to name but a few.
The satirical comedy series revolves around the life of OJ Mabunda, a somewhat flamboyant mayor that struggles to keep his growing polygamous family together while at the same time running the fictional city of Johannesburg.
The role of the title character is portrayed by none other than acting legend Lucky Legodi best known for his role as Bra Bizza in the 1995 series Kgatelopele. Joining Legodi is Thuli Thabethe in the role of the mayor’s right hand lady and spokesperson, Mercia. Thabethe is no stranger to the television industry and even played host to the first season of the highly acclaimed Our Perfect Wedding.
The mayor’s beloved first wife, Ntombi is played by Vicky Kente who has starred in movies such as Born Free: A New Adventure and Winnie Mandela.
OJ and Ntombi are the proud parents of 2 children. The eldest, Boy-Boy, is being played by the side-splitting stand-up comedian Ntobeko Mandlingozi (Ntosh). Mandlingozi has performed at esteemed comedy events including The Heavyweight Comedy Jam, The Blacks Only Comedy Showcase and The 99% Xhosa Comedy Show.
OJ Mabunda’s second wife, Barbara, is played by songbird and actress Bianca Le Grange who was a contestant on the first season of South African Idols. In her role as OJ’s young second wife she has trouble adjusting when she has to move in the main house with the first wife.
The mayor’s has a lot more to deal with than just his family and the city of Johannesburg. He also has to deal with a city manager who lives to see his downfall. OJ's nemesis, Lucinda Le Roux is played by the fiery Fiona Ramsay who has acted in in big films such as In My Country, The Bang Bang Club, The Three Investigators and The Secret of Skeleton Island.
The Mayor promises and abundance of hilarious entertainment and premieres on 20 November at 19:00 only on Mzansi Magic DStv – Channel 161.
