Idols South Africa Power Ranking: We Rank the Top 3
We’ve reached the penultimate episode of this season’s Idols SA, we’re down to three. On Sunday, we’ll have our two finalists, and we’re pretty much in for an all male showdown.
This is also our last Power Ranking of the season. Next week, it would be silly to rank the Top 2. Instead, we’ll just give you reasons why a certain contestant should win the whole thing.
Here it is, our last ranking.
Reinhardt: Rhema Varrie – He had a horrible, horrible night on Sunday. He’s proved that he is a good singer, we know that. A solid voice alone, however, does not make a star. Rhema has also proved that he isn’t a star. He showed a lack of any soul and believability, no ‘it’ factor or sex appeal – you can’t take on “Adorn” and “Sexual Healing” without it. That said, he has a huge fan base for some reason. He’ll likely make the finale over Mmatema, but we know who the bigger star is.
Justine: Mmatema Moremi – I sadly don't see Mmatema surviving another elimination although she is the only remaining contestant with any star potential. I still maintain that, win or lose, she has the brightest future ahead of her. I cannot fathom why the girl has so many haters - whatever happened to girls sticking together?
Reinhardt: Mmatema Moremi – her performance of Mafikizolo’s “Happiness” was golden. It was a breath of fresh air during Sunday night’s very dull performances. It proved that Mmatema is a star. Sure, she does a mean Whitney, but she also has the ability to let loose and get down. She’s the perfect winner, big vocalist and big stage performer. Her haters, however, will make sure that Mmatema doesn’t get what she rightfully deserves. The girl is going to lose out to a very boring, unnatural Rhema.
Justine: Rhema Varrie – I am forced by a somewhat ignorant voting public to rank Rhema at #2. Sure he is a nice guy. Sure he has a pretty good voice. I just don't see him captivating a crowd on an international stage. Please Idols producers, stop airing all the sob stories - talent should trump tears!
Reinhardt: Karabo Mogane – The difference between Karabo and Rhema is night and day. Karabo has a naturally soulful voice, a natural stage presence, and he’s proven that he can get down when he needs to – although I would have liked to have seen more of that, his recent performances have been a little monotonous. That said, he’s a natural star, and he’s a good South African Idol. He’s also nice and handsome, which probably counts more for the Idols viewers anyway. If he loses the title to Rhema, we’re in for a disaster.
Justine: Karabo Mogane – It's going to be a close finish in the end but I think Karabo could still steal the win. His fans are somewhat less of a presence on social media of late but I'm going to remain optimistic and say it is because they are busy voting.
Clearly we both agree on who the final two will be. I just couldn’t stomach ranking Rhema at #2 like Justine did, but we’re pretty much in agreement with these 3.
What do you think? Is there any possibility that we could be wrong? We sure hope so.
