Idols South Africa Power Ranking: We Rank The Top 5
Okay, Idols SA is down to this season’s final five contestants. Is it just us, or this season fly by faster than ever? Is that because the season was so good, or do we just space out? Dunno, but this season had some very strong performances.
Ranking the remaining 5 isn’t very easy. At this stage, it’s impossible not to look at the overall picture – what each contestant has done over the course of the season, how many strong performances have they had, who struggled the most? All of that has to be considered to rank the Top 5 best as possible.
That, however, does not mean it’ll play out that way on Sunday – it definitely won’t.
Here ya go.
Reinhardt: Siphelele Ngcobo – Let me put this out there first: he won’t be going home on Sunday. He seems have found his groove and his mark with viewers, and his choice of music has no doubt had an impact on that. But, everything considered, he had the weakest run – by far – of the five remaining contestants. You can’t say that he has had a stronger season than any of the others, but I suspect he’ll survive another week.
Justine: Siphelele Ngcobo – It is once again extremely hard to rank Siphelele as he is not the most talked about person on social media. He hasn't had a bad performance as such but he is by far the most polarizing contestant of the season. His song choices seem to save him week after week. Has his luck run out? Only time will tell.
Reinhardt: Loyiso Gijana – In my mind, this 16-year-old deserves a spot in the top 3. He has had a great season, but on Sunday, he fell a little short. His run on the show should have been good enough for a top 3 birth, but I suspect he’ll be the one leaving on Sunday.
Justine: Loyiso Gijana – Loyiso did not have a good night on Sunday and has been receiving quite a bit of criticism for his botched attempt at Bob Marley's 'One Love'.
His fans are vocal and loyal and that might just be enough to send him into the Top 4.
Reinhardt: Rhema Varrie – The guy with the good voice but not enough star quality had an okay night on Sunday – a good performance of “Billionaire” followed by an underwhelming “When a Man Loves a Woman,” but he seems to have connected with a lot of viewers. Could he snatch a spot in the Top 2? Somehow, I won’t be surprised.
Justine: Rhema Varrie – Rhema has a huge fanbase. There is a bit of a buzz on Facebook about him being where he is for all the wrong reasons. The guy can sing but I still haven't seen any star qualities. Karabo better watch out as Rhema might be out to steal his crown.
Reinhardt: Mmatema Moremi – I cannot fathom why Mmatema has so much haters. I fail to understand why female viewers feel threatened by other confident and super talented women. They should be celebrated, not hated. That’s unfortunately where Mmatema finds herself. Her rendition of the iconic “I Will Always Love You” was damn good. Stunning. She’s without a doubt the best female package the show has ever produced. In a just world, she would be gunning for the win.
Justine: Mmatema Moremi – Mmatema has all the makings of a star but she simply does not resonate well with especially female viewers. In a show where politics take a backseat the lovely Ms Moremi would without a doubt walk away with the title. Sadly a lot of politics prevail amongst the viewers of Idols.
Reinhardt: Karabo Mogane – He had another strong night on Sunday. His version of “Fallin’” was pretty great. Karabo rarely missteps, and his fan base is huge. There’s no doubt come finale night that Proverb will call out his name. Girls love him, and that’s all that counts.
Justine: Karabo Mogane – It is not hard to continuously rank Karabo at #1. The guy is giving his all and his fans are more than happy to reward his efforts with their votes. I still maintain he will be the winner.
