Power Couple SA Recap: The Girls Go Big
A new cycle started on this week’s Power Couple SA. It was a clean slate. Yet, some of the couples almost found themselves at the same spot they were during the last cycle. Scrap that, one couple does find themselves in the exact same spot – at the bottom of the leader board.
This week’s episode featured one very good challenge, and another which didn’t shock as much as they expected it to.
The latter was the girls challenge, and that was up first. The challenge would test the girls’ general knowledge in a variety of categories. The catch? The guys chose which categories their partners had to answer questions from, and if their partner answered a question incorrectly, the guy would be shocked with a light bolt of electricity from a collar that was attached to their necks. Yikes.
Dyllan wagered 28k – the highest wager – on Vix completing the challenge. Dyllan never felt the electricity once as Vix easily completed the challenge. A good shock would probably have cured his hangover from the previous night’s outing, though. Emile didn’t think too much of Razia’s general knowledge and only wagered 4k. She easily completed it. PJ also played it safe with a 10k wager on Marzanne completing the challenge, and she succeeded. All the girls completed the challenge except for Roshila, after Ivan felt a little confident and wagered 20k on her. Somebody has been doing too little Mail & Guardian quizzes. Ha-ha. This left Ivan and Roshila at the bottom of the leader board with 30k in their electronic wallet.
Back at the villa, Razia wasn’t too happy with Emile’s tiny wager, and Marzanne seemed a little bit pissed off at PJ too in what was a heavily teased Kleinhans fight. But, as it turns out, after 2 months of marriage, even their fights are cute. PJ maintained that he doesn’t want to go and drink a beer with the guys; he’d rather stay and prepare a bubble bath for the both of them. I mean, what a fight, hey.
Ivan and Roshila retreated to their room, taking the challenge loss a little hard. It probably, or definitely, wasn’t the right thing to do. As Dean pointed out, there were still 2 challenges in which they could save themselves. However, they only needed one to get them out of danger zone somewhat.
It was the guys challenge up next, and this was a good one. Not as easy as it once seemed, it was actually quite tough within the time limit. The guys would be strapped to a rotating board which would plunge their heads in and out of a pool of water, all while having to answer questions about their relationships that had numerical answers. With each correct answer, the girls would be able to unlock a box with a combination padlock until they successfully reached a buzzer under the last box. There was a time limit of 4 minutes.
When Dean and Crystal were shown discussing her possible wager the previous night, it was all too obvious she was going to go big. She did. She wagered 50k on Dean completing the challenge. Vix also went for a big 50k wager on Dyllan, and Phindi also went big with a 43k wager on Mo. I still picture Mo and Phindi with their own sitcom. They’re by far the funniest couple on the show. Mo’s spare room crack was great. Okay, back to business. Roshila had to go all in on Ivan, wagering their whole 30k.
It was quite a tough challenge that featured several close calls, some couples finishing with only seconds left on the clock. That said, all couples successfully completed the challenge except for 2 – Dean and Crystal, and Mo and Phindi.
Dyllan and Vix ended up as the big winners of the night, ending with 128k in their electronic wallet.
Dean and Crystal dropped down to 25k while Mo and Phindi dropped down to 17k. Ivan and Roshila narrowly escapes being in the bottom two, sitting at 60k, but anything could still happen next week.
At this point, it’s easy to take a stab at who the Top 3 couples will be. PJ and Marzanne, Emile and Razia, and Dyllan and Vix seem to be in a very good spot with regards to money in their electronic wallet, as well as their popularity within the house. The couples like them. Who will be eliminated next week? One of the other couples. Mo and Phindi would probably go home if they were up against Ivan and Roshila or Dean and Crystal, but if they escape elimination and it’s between the other 2 couples, it could go either way.
Last thought: Last week I might have said the way the girls play is boring or whatever, but I can assure you, Marzanne, you’re not boring and probably the most kickass and toughest girl on the show.
