Idols South Africa Power Ranking: We Rank the Top 6
Right, we’re down to the Top 6 on this season’s Idols SA, and everything is still left to play for. Just kidding. The only thing left to play for this season is the coveted runner-up spot since we’re pretty sure who is going to win this whole thing.
But, in a big twist, Siphelele is no longer in the last spot. That’s monumental. Let’s get on with it shall, we? From #6 to #1.
Reinhardt: Dineo Moseki – The past two weeks have been quite a nightmare for the girl who I once thought could be in the Top 3, but it’s been weeks since she’s shown us that she can. At this stage, she shouldn’t be in the Top 5. She’s been the worst vocally the past two weeks, and her time should be up.
Justine: Dineo Moseki – After 3 consecutive disastrous weeks it should be the end of the road for the tiny songbird on Sunday. Every season of Idols does however present at least one shocking elimination and I will not be surprised if Ms Moseki lives to see another day.
Reinhardt: Siphelele Ngcobo – On Sunday, Randall said Siphelele’s comeback is the best he’s ever seen on this show. Out of nowhere. Yes, on Sunday, Siphelele was really good, and he’s been better than Dineo for the past two weeks. He has gained some confidence, but it remains to be seen whether he could be consistent enough to continue his comeback. I think not.
Justine: Siphelele Ngcobo – It is extremely hard to rank Siphelele. His fan base does not seem exceptionally large but they do seem loyal and his ingenius song choices have won over many a naysayer over the past couple of weeks.
Reinhardt: Rhema Varrie – He keeps his place at #4 after a solid showing on Sunday. Behind the piano, accompanied by the guitar, doing pop/rock songs, he tried it. He really tried, and his vocals, at least during his OneRepublic performance, were really good. That said, he doesn’t seem to have the star quality needed. His lack of natural charisma and star potential will keep him back, but hey, the viewers love him. He could likely be in the Top 3.
Justine: Rhema Varrie – Rhema could very well end up in the Top 3. He keeps his fans happy and as long as they are happy they will keep voting for him. Potential Top 3 contestant.
Reinhardt: Loyiso Gijana – The most talented teenager to ever grace the Idols SA stage. On Sunday, he was the best, no doubt about that. His soulful Boys II Men cover was fantastic, and he showed his versatility by killing a popular 2015 pop/rock staple. He has natural charisma and star potential in spades, but I’m afraid he’s not connecting to the masses. They’re not into star quality.
Justine: Mmatema Moremi – Mmatema is by far the most polished performer this season but also the one who receives the most unfair criticism. Based on talent she should win, but she won't.
Reinhardt: Mmatema Moremi – Another contestant with natural star potential, and a very good voice. She had a solid night on Sunday, but her song choices did not connect to the South African masses. I’m worried about her, but I still think she could be this season’s runner-up. She’ll have to pull out all the stops to get there, but she deserves to.
Justine: Loyiso Gijana – Loyiso is another difficult one to rank. He has the 'young girl vote' and generally young girls are exceptional voters. His fans clearly see something special in him. He should make it all the way to the end
Reinhardt: Karabo Mogane – Yeah, no, he’s going to win, whether he’s the biggest star or not. He had a solid night on Sunday. I didn’t care much for his Boys II Men cover, but I was very impressed by his take on Hozier’s “Someone New”. It was effortless. That said, he’s not the right person to represent us on an international scale. That’s Loyiso and Mmatema.
Justine: Karabo Mogane – Karabo retains his #1 spot after 2 solid performances on Sunday. The audience love him. The viewers love him. I'm beginning to think it will be an all-guy finale.
