Idols South Africa: Nadia Herbst Exit Interview

Nadia Herbst may have been the first Top 10 finalist eliminated from the latest season of Idols SA, but this ‘poppie’ is far from discouraged.

The term ‘poppie’ doesn’t really fit Nadia; she’s much more than that. Much stronger than the negative connotations associated with the word, Nadia came over as a strong, inspiring, and hardworking dreamer.

I got the opportunity to ask her a few questions, pertaining to her run on the show, her stance against bullies, her message to supporters, and more.

Here you go.

Firstly, congratulations on making it to the Top 10.

Were you surprised by the result? Or were you expecting the outcome?

I always prepare for the worse but hope for the best.

How was it standing up there next to Amanda, last to find out your results again? Cruel producers' joke?

I have a strong bond with Amanda and for that moment we supported each other.

If you had the opportunity, what would you have done differently?

I wish I could choose an upbeat song but that being said "Take a Bow" was something different.

"Take a Bow" was following a trend. Pop ballads were your thing, or at least what you were going for. Do you think you should have tried something different for the Top 10 Spectacular? I always thought you were more of an up tempo pop singer, like your Shakira cover during Theatre Week.

Rihanna’s song was R&B and it was a challenge for me and I like to challenge myself. I always try different genres to show versatility.

What was your favourite Idol moment during your journey?

Being on the Top 10 big stage and getting onto [the] stage with the lift.

You are quite outspoken about bullies, being involved in anti-bullying campaigns. Does that come from personal experience? It's really awesome what you're doing.

Yes, in school I had lots of challenges but I want to inspire people that you can still reach for your dream even though everyone is doubting you.

Do you feel like you were harshly criticized by some viewers? Putting yourself out there takes guts. Gareth thought you were going to buckle under the pressure and you didn't.

Yes, people were very critical and underestimated me but it motivated me to work even harder.

Who do you think is going to win this season?

It’s too early to say, but I know everyone deserves it.

Do you have a message for all your supporters?

Thank you to everyone for believing in me and always being there for me. I promise Nadia will be a future star and I will never ever change. Again thank you so much xx
