Up and Coming: Interview with Lize Heerman
I recently had the pleasure of chatting with Idols South Africa Allumni, Lize Heerman. Liza has quite the background, ranging from Season 5 finalist for Idols South Africa to Supersport presenter, Radio DJ and most recently followed by her stint on The Voice Australia.
What do you miss most from being on Idols, and what would you like to do over again?
I think being able to get on stage and be in the homes of millions of South Africans is a rush you can't get anywhere else.
While on the show, did the judges give you any advise that you still take with you? If so - what was it?
I think the biggest thing I learned from their advice was to just enjoy every minute. The show goes by so quickly and before you know it it is over.
How much did participating in SA Idols actually change your music career?
It had a huge affect on my career. If I had not done the show I would never have gotten my music on the radio and would never have had the confidence to enter the Voice Australia.
Have you got anything interesting in the pipeline to share with us?
I have just released my album 11:11. It is available on iTunes - here is the link:
If you could audition again - would you do anything differently? If so - what would that be?
I would have more fun and would not take myself too seriously. Idols is about the experience and not necessarily about winning - you can still do well if you don't win.
What would you say has been your most memorable television appearance?
I really enjoyed perfuming on the Voice - its great to represent SA in another country
What urged you to try out for The Voice Australia? I have always wanted to sing internationally and this was my chance.
What made you decide on Ricky Martin as your coach?
I really love Ricky's spirit- he is such a warm guy with a great heart. He took a lot of time off camera to get to know us all and really made himself approachable.
How was working with Ricky Martin?
It was an amazing experience. I remember dancing to "Livin La Vida Loca" years ago and always loved his voice - who would have thought that he would become a coach to me on such an amazing show - life is super surprising sometimes.
