Scouted! - Byron Langley
In 2010 the Spud movie took South Africa by storm. Now, 5 years later the young actor who portrayed the role of brawny Simon Brown has grown into a magnetic heart throb ready to take the world by storm. At only 21 years of age Byron Langley has the world at his feet. Not only does he sport exceptional movie-star looks but he is also rated highly as both an actor and a cricket player. I had the opportunity to get to know more about the hunky guy behind the piercing blue eyes and gorgeous smile.
You are affectionately known for your portrayal of Simon Brown in the Spud movies. Apart from your love of sport do you have anything else in common with your character?
I'd say our biggest similarity is that we are both quite easy going and we both have no problem with sitting back and being quiet sometimes as opposed to being the centre of attention. I think if he was brought up in our generation we'd get along well You are an actor, model and talented sportsman. Any other hidden talents we don't know about?
From before I could walk I had a pair of drumsticks in my hand, bashing them on any nearby surface I could find- much to my parents' dismay. My love for the drums also got me interested in the guitar, I've been playing both to this day. My mother's keen interest in art inspired doodling whenever a pencil was around- i started my own little comic strip called Nibbs in high school, I'd say my greatest achievement with art was getting 100% in matric. It is no secret that you are considered serious eye candy amongst women of all ages. How do you manage to remain humble amid all the attention?
Haha, classic. I guess realising that there are thousands of other "teen crushes" around doesn't make me any more special than the next person- everyone has a fan, whether it be a sibling, friends or even a gran who keeps your school photo in her wallet. Have you ultimately decided whether you are going to pursue a career in acting or focus on cricket? Or are you still keeping your options open?
Playing cricket for South Africa was a dream I've had since I can remember- I used to spend hours outside hitting a ball against a wall and imagining the crowd roaring to every shot I played. Acting was a surprise for me, it definitely put a spanner in the works of my aim for cricket glory. Before shooting Spud I had no ambition to pursue acting, but after our first day on set I couldn't imagine doing anything else. For the time being I'm trying to balance the two and ride it out until hopefully it works itself out, who knows, I may end up doing something completely different. What can the world expect from Byron Langley next? Any exciting prospects on the horizon?
I've recently moved to Cape Town to get involved with the film industry- although after 5 months of Cape Living I find myself in London playing cricket and modelling for the rest of the year, so it's difficult to say. I'm definitely going to try better myself in DSLR film making to make skits for a Youtube channel I started a while back, the videos up there now are technically off, so I'd like to upload some good quality stuff soon. I'm also involved with a really good sporting agency (Futura Sports Agency) who are working hard to get me into the mix of some professional cricket sides.
