Pretty Little Liars Season 6 Premiere: Charles Who?
Pretty Little Liars Season 6 premiered with a bang last night and once again Tuesday nights have become terrifyingly fabulous!
The episode entitled ‘Game On, Charles’ picks up right where we left off in the season 5 finale, with the Liars and Mona being held captive in Charles’s lair. We soon learn that Mona was not the only Ali lookalike being held against her will in the dollhouse. The second girl is later revealed to be Sara Harvey, a girl who went missing around the same time Ali did. Judging by all the tally marks on the wall she has been Charles’s prisoner for a very long time.
After their attempted escape the girls find themselves locked outside in the cold, huddling together without any food or water. They have a fiery discussion about their chances of survival with Aria noting morosely that she does not think she can handle the situation. When the bunker doors finally reopen the girls are instructed to ‘follow the lighted pathway’. Charles unleashes teargas and Mona is separated from the group, only to return dressed as a candy striper, instructing the girls to call her Ali.
Another announcement follows, this time instructing the girls to return to their rooms. Mona being her defiant self, tries to oppose the instruction and soon ends up in a dark hole, singing lullabies to herself.
Fast Forward 3 Weeks: Back in Rosewood Andrew Campbell has been listed as the No 1 suspect in the girls’ disappearance. They have been missing for a month and a diary entry indicates Andrew’s resentment towards the liars. We see a new, softer side to Ali when she makes a desperate plea for her friends’ safe return.
At the DeLaurentis household Toby and Tanner are trying to lure Andrew into coming after Ali. During a sweep of the property they discover only a carefully placed hoodie and a pig mask – typical A behaviour. Ali, together with the help of Ezra and Caleb manages to escape the watchful eye of the Rosewood PD and goes in search of A, hoping that he leads her back to his lair.
Back at the dollhouse the girls are instructed to unpack boxes of Ali’s personal belongings in preparation for her arrival. They find newspaper clippings highlighting their disappearance and the toll it has taken on their respective families. Spencer finally decides that enough is enough and that it is time the girls fight back. She reveals that Charles is in fact a DeLaurentis and leads the girls to his vault where they promptly set fire to his personal belongings.
Ali arrives at the bunker at the same time that Charles witnesses his property go up and flames which leaves him torn between salvaging his belongings and grabbing Ali. He finally sounds the fire alarm which enables the girls to run away and lead Caleb and Ezra to the bunker. Tearful reunions ensue between Aria and Ezra, Hannah and Caleb and even Spencer and Toby once he arrives on the scene. It is no surprise though that Charles manages to escape. Sara Harvey was however found and rescued but her role in the bigger scheme of things is yet unknown.
The Season 6 premiere may have provided many answers but have also left us with a lot of new questions: Did Charles have an accomplice? Does Ali remember him? Who is Sara Harvey really?
Tune in to next weeks’ episode for more action and intrigue Pretty Little Liars style!
