After five years with the band, Zayn Malik announced his departure from One Direction and the world came to a standstill!
On the band’s official Facebook Page an emotional Malik posted the following: "My life with One Direction has been more than I could ever have imagined. But, after five years, I feel like it is now the right time for me to leave the band. I'd like to apologize to the fans if I've let anyone down, but I have to do what feels right in my heart. I am leaving because I want to be a normal 22-year-old who is able to relax and have some private time out of the spotlight,"
One Direction signed with Syco Records after finishing 3rd in Season 7 of The X Factor UK in 2010 and have taken the music industry by storm since. Malik, together with Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson became international superstars having all of their releases to date debuting at No. 1 on the American charts – an unprecedented feat!
Malik who hails from the United Kingdom has a net worth of approximately $20 million, not bad for a 22 year old from Bradford, West Yorkshire. While his former band mates seem supportive of his decision to leave the band one can’t help but wonder how they really feel. There is no need to guess how the 1D fans feel about Malik’s departure after a dangerous trend surfaced on Twitter with some fans promoting self-harm with hash tags such as #CutForZayn and #Cut4Zayn.
The line between passionate support and unhealthy obsession has clearly been crossed with many teenage girls going so far as to threaten with suicide. Chaos soon turned into excitement when producer Naughty Boy tweeted a link to Malik’s first solo demo ‘I Wont Mind’ which has since received more than a million hits on Soundcloud.
With both Malik and what remains of One Direction having seemingly bright futures ahead of them all seems to be well in the world of the hormonal teenage girl again.
